Strangulated Intestinal Obstinal Obstruction

Abstract
|
|
|
During the past 8 years from 1964 to 19571, 30 cases of strangulated obstruction of the intestines were
treated surgically at the Seoul National University HOspital.
The results were as follows:
1. Adhesive obstruction of smal intestine are the most common cause of strangulation (73%).
2. Physical examinations and laboratory findings such as Hct, WBC count, S-Electrolyte, S-Amlase
were not significant in the early detection of the strangulaton.
3. The overall nortality rate was 23% (7 out of 30 patients).
4. The age of the patients and the presence of the preoperative shock state were important factors in
mortality rate.
Literatures on this subject were reviewed.
